Abolish Money & Advance Society
The thought scares the rich, and sends waves of joy over the poor. Others still scream "communist!" But that's not really what I believe should, and will, happen.
What I believe is simply this:
1) Money will be eliminated
2) Give all citizens a "credit card" that gives each citizen credits, where the credits are for: food, housing, car, and generic credits
It's a simple plan. Nothing in the country would cost anything. No employee would make anything. But in exchange all people would have shelter, food, education, vehicle and anything else needed to live.
Now as many "pro capitalism" people will comment, "who will do the crap jobs?" And that's the easiest thing ever -- give them better benefits. Imagine if you had the choice of working in a mine (garbage, or other "bad" field), but you only had to work six months or less per year and got the rest off!
But it doesn't have to be just time off. People working in a specific field could get 25-100% more credits, if credits exist for that field. That is, if a person works manufacturing cars, they could get 20-100% more car credits than people not in that field.
Every 20 years you get a full house credit (or .25 house credits every 5 years for remodeling and such). All that's needed is to create a 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 credit house. A house without a hot tub, pool, or some other amenity would be a 1 credit house. Add a pool and it's a 2 credit house.
Similar for cars. Every 5 years you get a car credit. So every 5 years you could buy a brand new 1 credit car (or trade in the old car and maybe get a 2 credit car). Just as with houses, different features would make a car 2 credit over 1 credit.
Then just to help out, there'd be generic credits that could be used for anything, food, home or car upgrades, etc. 50,000 generic credits would be 1 home credit; 25,000 would be 1 car credit. Basically they'd be the conversion point for people not needing certain credits. For example, if someone's happy in their home, don't need (or have room to remodel), but have 3 house credits, they could convert one to car or generic credits to get a better car.
Sounds a lot like capitalism doesn't it? But that is in a sense both true and misleading. For actual things required for life and a bit of pleasure -- there's no cost, and you don't have to work. It's for the extra things that you need to do something.
It's as simple as this: the day you're born you're guaranteed food, shelter, transportation, health checkups, television, computer, and clothing -- without ever having to work! But you won't have fast food, pizza, alcohol, or other "optional" foods, for that you'd need to work.
This system does allow for one very good thing, people will do whatever job they like and are good at.
Think about it.
If you knew that no matter what job you had you and your family would thrive, would you still be in your job? If you said yes, then I congratulate you for you're lucky enough to do what you love. But for many if not most, a job is picked not because they love it, but they have no other choices.
Just imagine the works of art that would be created by people who are currently lawyers or factory workers! Just think of all the homeless people now -- and what technological advances they might be able to contribute!
And I know what many are thinking "if the homeless knew anything, they'd be working" -- how do you think they got that way? Some of them have advanced college degrees; they just couldn't get a job when they needed it. Then once they lost their homes... imagine you had two people come for a job, one dressed in a suit, another smelling of an alley -- which would you really hire? Every day a homeless person goes without a job, is another day that a potential advancement disappears. One of them might have the knowledge to create a cure for cancer; they'll just never have the ability to test out their theory.
Imagine how safe workers would be at work; and how pollutant free the country would be. After all, if it "costs" the same to be a 0% pollution company with under 1 accident per year as it does to dump radioactive material into the sewer with 25% employee deaths -- what company wouldn't opt for the cleaner and safer path!
Research and development costs would be $0 a year, whether you don't have an R&D department, or if you're developing the next generation space worthy propulsion engine.
And to top it all off, what do you think would happen to crime? Shoplifting? Robberies? Some murders? Gangs? For the most part, they'd be all but eliminated overnight! Not to mention, what do you think governments would be like if congressmen couldn't be bribed with money or benefits? For the first time in a long time, the government would actually do what benefits the people, not their own pocketbooks!
But with all good things, there are always a down side. And for this plan (in it's entirety - contact me for the full scale benefits), the downside is this: skyscrapers would have to be built as cities. The first floor would be reception, second through x floors be workplaces, food, general stores, etc. Floors x+1 to the top would be residential floors. Why? Well it's like this... make a country so desirable and you'll have more immigrants. Make it so people can have kids without worrying about food and you'll have more children born. More population = more housing and more food! More houses = less land = less space for good. So houses would have to go up to take up less space -- hence, skyscraper cities. Of course, the "high housing credit" people might have an entire floor to themselves!
All of this, just by eliminating money -- or "drastically reduced capitalism" as I sometimes call it.
People would do what they love and do best. Companies would create technological advanced devices by leaps. Hunger would be ended. People would be healthier than ever. Crime would be at all time lows.
And know what? Maybe, just maybe, it'd be a step towards world peace. There'll still be fighting, deaths, murders, but not as much. But when people work to advance themselves and their species as a whole, it's a good thing.
