Joshua Lee Rodgers, candidate for Robinson, IL Mayor

FAQs

Joshua Rodgers or Joshua Lee Rodgers

Officially, as in on the actual filing papers and ballot, the name listed is "Joshua Lee Rodgers". Just as many people don't use their complete name on things, his middle name may be frequently left off of the site's pages in places.

Since this site says "Joshua Rodgers" and "he", who's maintaining the site?

Actually it is I, Joshua Rodgers, who is maintaining all the pages of this site. All the words, pages, design, etc is designed and maintained by me. It's just one of those things that online it's better not to use "first person" types of writing. Sorry for any confusion! Of course there's not really anyway I can prove this, but it's true all the same.

Who handed out the materials, did signs, etc?

Joshua Rodgers did all the campaigning himself (other than his parents telling some friends). The rack fliers (small 1/3 sheet paper info sheets), website, signs, advertisements, etc were all designed by him personally. He even walked on almost every street (probably around 99% of the streets in Robinson), talked to anyone wanting to talk, and just got an overall personal on-foot viewing of the town and her people.

It's true that he could've had others do it, but he believes that it's important for a person that wants to be in charge of a town, to actually get out and do the things himself (or herself, but only males were running for mayor this year). Someone willing to work and make the town a great place should be willing to at least walk the streets.

Which political party are you associated?

Sorry! The mayor and other positions with the city are nonpartisan positions. This basically means they can't declare a party, they have to run as having "no party" so as "independents", and aren't really supposed to endorse any person for office that has a party (there's a number of instances of mayors doing this in other towns/cities). An elected official is able to run for a partisan office (thus declaring their party) after they're elected, but they can't say what they are as a running point or anything while running for a nonpartisan position.

Confused? Just think of it this way: it's not allowed.

Are you related to _____?

Probably not. Well he might be, but as there's only him and his parents living in Robinson, unless you know them, it's doubtful. His parents are Nancy and Dennis Rodgers.

Are you the Joshua Rodgers who did (insert illegal activity here)?

Nope. At one time there were two or three "Joshua Rodgers" in the town/county (different spelling he believes for one). Sadly he was told a number of years ago that one was into "activities that cause police attention" shall we say -- he can't say what (as he doesn't know entirely), but as he's been asked this a number of times recently he wanted it mentioned here.

Aren't you kind of avoiding some questions with issues/etc?

Joshua Rodgers believes that all things should be put to a "casual" vote (poll through the city website and other things) for all decisions that would potentially cost money or otherwise affect the residents in Robinson -- any times when Joshua Rodgers may say what he'd do, or even say he's put it to the people, it's not meant as an avoidance of the question ---- it's what he'd do: ask the people.

In government, someone (or a board) has to have the final "sign-off" for things to get done. But just because that has to be, it doesn't mean the people should be at the mercy of the few elected people. It's for that reason that Joshua Rodgers may seem to avoid certain questions about what he'd do about some issues -- even though he'll generally tell you what he'd like to see, with the polling caveat added in.

Why do you use lowercase for things?

It's easier on the eyes. No really, it's said that it is. Although as you've noticed, we only use lowercase for our navigation -- everything else is capitalized in the standard sense.

What's that weird looking symbol () in my browser!

So glad you asked! The weird looking symbol is nothing more than a omega symbol (Ω), with a bar under it, and a bio-hazard symbol in the middle of the Ω. And yes, it does look like a ankh (cross) -- it has no unintentional meaning, religious based connotation or anything else - it's actually just the logo for a manuscript/book that's written by Joshua Rodgers (it's a sci-fi thing if you're wondering). As this site also serves as a portfolio of Joshua Rodger's work (it just happens to be focused on his campaign right now), the favorite icon (favicon) is put as that. There's no side meanings or anything. Actually 90% of what this site contained before the political makeover was promotional based things for the manuscript.
